Singapore’s second edition of the iLight Marina Bay festival was held 9 March–1 April 2012. Themed Light Meets Asia, it included 29 lightworks by local and international artists; co-curated by Smart Light festivals founder Mary-Anne Kyriakou with Singapore creative leaders Charmaine Toh and FARM.

To strengthen the festival’s energy reduction strategies, as Asia’s first and only sustainable light festival, the Urban Redevelopment Authority upgraded its 2010 ‘Switch Off, Turn Up’ campaign. It persuaded owners of 52 Singapore commercial buildings to reduce their electricity consumptions from lighting and air-conditioning throughout the festival. These estimated reductions were offset against the estimated power consumption of the (low-energy) festival artworks, producing a net-negative consumption calculation (200,000 kWh) for the three-week, early winter event.

Fringe events included two exhibits of lightworks by students at the LASALLE College of the Arts and School of Arts Singapore, weekend night carnivals, roving performances, LED stilt walkers, synchronised kite flying, a photography workshop and competition, and an urban light design symposium.
