LEAD PARTNERS

City of Sydney. Its Customs House information centre at Circular Quay, managed by Jennifer Kwok and her team, hosts the SuperLux exhibition during September and October 2015, including the launch event for both the book and exhibition on 3 September. Leaders of the city’s annual Art and About (public art) promotion have named SuperLux as an Associate Event. During the AaA celebrations, a major artwork, Near Kin Kin, will be displayed centrally on the Customs House forecourt – emphasising the SuperLux eco-ethical theme and lightworks.

Thames & Hudson. One of the world’s leading publishers of prestigious arts monographs, T&H has produced SuperLux: Smart Light Art, Design and Architecture for Cities, as its first book focused on urban lighting. Commissioned by editorial director, Lucas Dietrich, the book is being marketed globally from September 2015.

InDesign Media Asia Pacific. IMAP is Australasia’s leading print and online publisher and events company for the design industry, educating and representing various creative disciplines and categories of well-designed products. IMAP’s owner, Raj Nandan, and managing editor, Lorenzo Logi, are promoting the SuperLux exhibition and book launch to the InDesign communities via their indesignlive sites in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

KEY SUPPORTERS

Berkelouw Books. Since 1812, when Solomon Berkelouw began peddling vellum-bound theology tracts on the Rotterdam docksides, six generations of the family have grown the Berkelouw business. Fleeing anti-Jewish sentiments in Europe, Isidor Berkelouw moved his family to Australia in 1948. His sons, Henry and Leo, and grandsons, Paul, Robert and David, now supervise Australia’s largest bookselling firm offering both new and vintage volumes. Berkelouw is developing new light art window displays with SuperLux exhibition curator Mike Day and its Paddington store, managed by Abby Cassar, is the official retail partner for the launch event at Customs House on 3 September.

Xenian. Directed by Rick Cale, Xenian is Australia’s leading technical installation specialist for creatively ambitious light art displays. A pioneering supplier and expert with Philips’ groundbreaking Color Kinetics (colour-changing RGB LED) systems, Xenian has worked closely with American artist James Turrell on his displays at the Australian National Gallery in Canberra, and is supporting curator Mike Day to deliver several lightworks for the SuperLux exhibition at Customs House.

Goldsmiths College of Art, University of London. Professors Frédéric Fol Leymarie, Robert Zimmer and William Latham are supporting Davina Jackson’s SuperLux project, as part of her role as a visiting research fellow with their Department of Computing at Goldsmiths. Latham’s recent projection of his pioneering experiments with biological computer art, Mutator 1 & 2 (Organic TV), is noted in the SuperLux book. Leymarie is one of Europe’s outstanding science-arts research leaders on computer gaming and digital simulations of biological processes.
